These types of articles are published in IJMS Journal: Review Article (Narrative review/ Systematic review and Meta-analysis), Original Research Article, Clinical trials Brief Report, Case Report, Photo Clinics, Commentary, Letter to the Editor. 

Manuscripts should be submitted only in English.

The IJMS is open access and is available without any subscription fee. That means all articles are freely accessible online, and you can have unrestricted access to the articles in PDF format.

The IJMS has been published since 1970. Since 2014, it has been published bimonthly, and from January 2024, IJMS will be published on a monthly basis.

IJMS Journal accepts manuscripts only through the online submission system. To submit your manuscript, you should register and sign in to the journal portal.

• If an author has NOT been registered in the journal: Enter the author's information including first name, middle name, last name, and the academic degree. First, please register in the journal’s website at (https://ijms.sums.ac.ir/contacts?_action=signup)
   

• If an author has already been registered in the journals: Please use the login link at (https://ijms.sums.ac.ir/contacts)  

Once you submit an article, it will be forwarded to one of the editors, and then to a statistician and at least two peer-reviewers will review your manuscript. Following the submission, the Corresponding Author will be notified of submission confirmation and review process at once via email using the manuscript ID code. It is recommended to save your manuscript ID code for all the next correspondence regarding each article.

From January 1, 2022, to January 1, 2023, the fee payment is mandatory for all types of manuscripts sent to the Iranian Journal of Medical Sciences (IJMS). Invited articles are exempt from the article charges.

Please note that manuscripts submitted to IJMS for review and possible publication, will be processed only when the following conditions are met:

Please make sure that a copy of your payment receipt is attached to your submission as an image file (upload it on to the journal site).

It should be noted that all deposits are non-refundable, and a paper may be rejected by the Editors without being sent for review. Furthermore, the article submission fee and acceptance fee are used to support journal-related activities and cover editorial service and production of an article.

• Assignment Form: Please note that your assignment form has to be signed and dated by all authors, and the title of the article should be typed in the blank space. Please sign it with adding the date and send the scanned form to our office by email.


• What’s Known and New Form: Boxes should contain at most 50 words stating the current knowledge on the topic of your article according to previous studies (what’s known), and the novel points/results your article adds to the literature (what’s new).


• Title Page Form: should include 1) the title of the article; 2) authors' names; 3) name of the institution where the work was done; 4) running title (a short form of the main title presented on the top of pages); and 5) complete mailing address, telephone/fax numbers, and email address of the corresponding author, 6) state MD or PhD after each author’s name, 7) provide the mobile phone and email address of all authors. • Conflict of Interest (COI) Form: Each author must fill the uniform disclosure form available through the below link and upload it at the time of submission:

Any financial interests or connections, direct or indirect, or other situations that might raise the question of bias in the work reported or the conclusions, implications or opinions stated – including pertinent commercial or other sources of funding for the individual author(s) or the associated department(s) or organization(s), personal relationships, or direct academic competition.

All types of articles except review articles, case reports, and letters to editors should have a local ethics committee approval code issued by the relevant academic/research institute, especially researches conducted on humans and animals. Please kindly provide us with the ethics code of your manuscript.

All patients and participants of the research must be thoroughly informed about the aims and procedures of the study, including the potential risks/benefits of the intervention and exclusion criteria. Written informed consent from the participants or their legal guardians is necessary for any study. The Journal reserves the right to request the related documents.

Only the Corresponding Author is able to resubmit the manuscript.

For this purpose,

Sign in to the journal website > Change your role to Author (in top-right pane) > click on “Submissions Sent Back to Author".

Follow the submission to the end, and “Approve it”. A message would appear showing that the submission process is completed successfully.

If the Editor-in-chief has suggested a revision (Minor or Major) on your manuscript, then you are able to do it via the Journal Website.

The revised version of the manuscript should be uploaded on our website, and only the Corresponding Author is able to submit a revised version of a manuscript.

For this purpose, Sign in to journal website > Change your role to Author (in top-right pane) > click on “Submissions Needing Revision".

Find the desired article. Click Submit Revision by Main Corresponding Author.

During submitting your revision, be sure to upload “Revised Manuscript” and “Reply to Reviewers Letter”.

Follow the submission to the end, and “Approve it”. A message would appear showing that the resubmission process is completed successfully.

You should contact the Executive Editors to extend your time. If we don't receive your responses on due time, the process of your manuscript evaluation will be stopped, and after one month it will be archived.

Yes, it is necessary and very important that you answer each query, even if you think the paper does not require correction. Sometimes, the questions are asked in order to update the manuscript information (references) or for missing citations of figures or tables in the text.

You should contact us as soon as possible. Delays in returning page proofs can result in publication delays, both InPress or final publication. If your article has been scheduled for publication and the corresponding author doesn’t return the page proof on time, the article may be pulled out from the issue.

A proof of the accepted papers to be published will be sent to the corresponding author within 4-8 weeks, generally by e-mail in PDF format.

We require proof corrections to be returned within two working days.

Once a paper is published, it could not be changed without a clear notice of correction, as this undermines the integrity of the publishing record. If something subsequently needs to be changed, a corrigendum must be submitted to address an inaccuracy or omission. Moreover, in case of detecting a production error in a published item, the IJMS will publish an erratum.

The most common reason for a desk rejection is lack of novelty. Sometimes, the article is out of the scope of the journal, or it is better to be published in a local or more specific journal. In these cases, the editors will notify the authors of such a decision within a few weeks; so that the author can find a more suitable journal for his/her manuscript without losing too much time.

If a paper is rejected, that version will no longer be evaluated at IJMS. 

Yes, the manuscript can be withdrawn by the author at any time before being accepted for publication in the Journal.
